Scientific communications should be addressed to "The Editorial Secretary, Egyptian Journal of Horticulture (EJOH), National Information and Documentation Centre (NIDOC), Dokki, Cairo, Egypt.

Classes of Manuscripts

The Editorial Secretary will consider for publication in the journal manuscripts, which describe original work not previously published and if accepted, must not be published in any other journal unless permission is received from the Editorial Secretary of this Journal. Four classes of manuscripts are recognized:

(1) Original research paper, which gives a concise account of the author’s work in one of the fields of Horticulture. Original research findings are interpreted to mean the outcome of the scholarly inquiry, investigations, modeling, or experimentation having as an objective the revision of existing concepts, the development of new concepts, or the development of new or improved techniques in some phase of agronomy. They should be addressed to specialists with the intention of increasing their knowledge in the field which the research lays. The authors are required to give a brief summary of their articles not exceeding 150 words stating the objective of the work and its important results. It is also required to give an abstract of the article in Arabic (for Arabian Countries).Key word: Three to ten pertinent keywords need to be added after the abstract. Capitalize the first letter of each keywords. They should be specific to the article, yet reasonably common within the subject discipline.

(2) Note, which are abbreviated articles. No abstract is needed for the notes. Notes focus on studies of limited scope, unique observations, or research techniques and apparatus. The length of a note should be 2 to 3 published pages.

(3) Comments and Letters to the Editor, which are intended to be preliminary publications of results which are believed to justify prompt publication. Letters contain (a) critical comments on papers published in one of the Society outlets, (b) editorial comments by Society officers, or (c) personal comments on matters having to do with horticultural science.

(4) Review papers, a review is not simply a collection of papers that are all centered on a common theme. Review papers should provide a synthesis of existing knowledge and give new insights or concepts not previously presented in the literature, or at least not with the same level of detail. The review should identify knowledge gaps for future research. An author should generally be allowed more freedom to provide his/her view on a topic in a review as the papers being reviewed are presumed to already have passed some level of scientific scrutiny by peers. A good review is often one of the most important ways to advance an area of science.

General Instructions

Manuscripts can be submitted to the Editor through the web site of the EJH ( Only electronic submissions are accepted, the preferred format is a single MS Word file containing all text and tables. Figures must be submitted in TIF, EPS, or PDF format. Photographs must be submitted in TIFF or JPEG format. The following information must be provided for each manuscript submitted: the corresponding author with an email address and other contact information; a complete listing of all authors and affiliations; manuscript title; and a listing of all individuals acknowledged in the manuscript. All manuscripts are subject to plagiarize screenings upon submission.

Manuscripts must be submitted in triplicate, type-written, double-spaced or 1.5 lines and on one side only[M1] . All pages, including tables and illustrations, should be consecutively numbered. Spelling should be consistent throughout the paper and according to the Oxford Dictionary. Footnotes are to be avoided as much as possible. Whenever possible, authors should arrange their material in well-defined sections: Abstract, Introduction, Experimental, Results, and Discussion.

The manuscirpt must be contains : Aknowledgment, Funding statement, Conflict of interest.

References should be listed in alphabetic order according to the text typed after it. Note the following in preparing the references section:

 1. Format the references with double-spacing and line numbering.

 2. Do not number the references listed.

 3. Arrange the list alphabetically by the last name of the senior author and then by the last name of successive authors.

 4. Single-authored articles should precede multiple-authored articles for which the same individual is senior author for example:

Stott, K.G. (1972) Pollen germination and pollen tube characteristics in orange of apple cultivars. J. Hort. Sci., 47, 191-198.

Lester, G.E. and Grusak, M.A. (2004) Field application of chelated calcium: postharvest effects on cantaloupe and honeydew fruit quality. Hort. Techno., 14, 29–38.

5. Two or more articles by the same author(s) are listed chronologically; two or more in the same year are indicated by the letters a, b, c, etc.

6. All published works cited in the text must be listed as a reference and vice versa.

7. Only literature that is available through libraries can be cited. The reference list can include theses, dissertations, abstracts, or the web (URL) listings.

8. Material not available through libraries, such as personal communications or privileged data, should be cited in the text in a parenthetical form.

9. Chapter references from books must include, in order, author(s), year, chapter title, editor(s), book title, publisher, city, and page range, for example:

Snedecor, G.W. and Cochron, W.G. (1980) "Statistical Methods", 7th ed. Iowa State University Press, Ames, 507 p.

10. Symposium proceedings should include editor(s), date and place of a symposium, publisher, publisher’s location, and page numbers.

11. Software references should include the following information: Author (or company), date, the name of the software, version (if applicable), manufacturer, and location. For example SAS Institute (1994) The SAS system for Windows. Release 6.10. SAS Inst., Cary, NC.

12. Conference Proceedings:

  • Author 1, A.B., Author 2, C.D., Author 3, E.F. Title of Presentation. In Title of the Collected Work (if available), Proceedings of the Name of the Conference, Location of Conference, Country, Date of Conference; Editor 1, Editor 2, (Ed.) (if available), Publisher: City, Country, Year (if available), Abstract Number (optional), Pagination (optional).
  • Thesis:
Author 1, A.B. Title of Thesis. Level of Thesis, Degree-Granting University, Location of University, Date of Completion.
  • Websites:
Title of Site. Available online: URL (accessed on Day Month Year).
Unlike published works, websites may change over time or disappear, so we encourage you create an archive of the cited website using a service such as Website. Archived websites should be cited using the link provided as follows:
Title of Site. URL (archived on Day Month Year).

The names of periodicals should be abbreviated according to the most recent list of periodicals abstracted by Chemical Abstracts.

C (no mention of C).°For economy, abbreviations rather than words are to be used, such as: ppm, cm, mm, m, km, cc, ml, g, mg, kg, min, hr, m.p., f.p., cal, kcal, %, expt., Fig.,

Do not duplicate matter that is presented in charts or graphs. Use the following symbols for footnotes in the order shown: †, ‡, §, ¶, #, ††, ‡‡, etc. The symbols *, **, and *** are always used to show statistical significance at the 0.05, 0.01, and 0.001 level, respectively, and are not used for other footnotes. Spell out abbreviations on first mention in tables, even if the abbreviation is defined in the text (i.e., a reader should be able to interpret each table without referring to the text).

Figures and Graphs

Do not use figures that duplicate matter in tables. When creating figures, use font sizes and line weights that will reproduce clearly and accurately when figures are sized to the appropriate column width. Screening and/or shaded patterns often do not reproduce well; whenever possible use black lines on a white background in place of shaded patterns. Color figures are acceptable and are the default of the electronic version. The data in the figure must be accurately represented in a  gray scale version. For example, use symbols not just the differing line thickness to differentiate between data. Figures and captions should stand alone. Captions should explain the data rather than discuss the results of the data.

Proofs should be checked by the author against the manuscript. It is undesirable to make any change in the original text.

For payment upon acceptance for publication

For Egyptians: A sum of 300 EGP, For Foreigner researchers: A sum of 100$ upon acceptance. As well as additional fees the Egyptian Horticulture Society, is required to be delivered to :
